Capacity-based licensing models have required significant changes to discovery and reconciliation methodologies. Traditional software signature approaches must be correlated with highly detailed and dynamic hardware/CPU-based data elements. In PVU and virtual environments, this merger of information must be thorough, accurate and robust to avoid unintentional but potentially costly overstatements of license liabilities. This session describes how an organization tackled these challenges while implementing Software Asset Management in a mid-range server environment. |

Eracent Inc. announces the general availability of EnterpriseEM 9.7, its industry-leading automated software license compliance solution. The enhancements in this release provide the ability to manage additional complex licensing models, reconcile based on additional license attributes, and to report on a broader spectrum of licensing details. EnterpriseEM 9.7 greatly simplifies the management of software that is governed by IBM’s Sub-Capacity licensing model in virtualization environments. It provides a single, centralized solution that helps IT professionals easily understand and reconcile mid-range software products that are licensed based on Processor Value Units (PVUs), whether they are leveraging full or partial processor core capacity. Eracent’s detailed, highly accurate inventory process discovers key attributes of both physical and virtual processors, and EnterpriseEM’s algorithms automatically reconcile the installation and licensing data to provide accurate, auditable, and easy-to-understand reports. EnterpriseEM 9.7 also supports license key-based reconciliation. Many applications are both activated and uniquely identified based on license keys, and Eracent provides a new dimension of license management by discovering these keys and utilizing this data for reconciliation. This new release expands the scope of related details that can be included in compliance reports beyond organizational views and potential financial liability and savings figures. EnterpriseEM 9.7 provides links toassociated contract records in Eracent’s lifecycle management repository, including master license agreements with detailed terms and conditions for each reconciled software title. “As software licensing models get more complex, organizations are increasingly concerned that they are still utilizing their software products within the parameters of their licensing agreements”, notes Jack Micklovich, Eracent’s Vice President of Software Asset Management Solutions. “By addressing the wide variations in licensing models and the mix of license types that our customers have in their environments, EnterpriseEM helps alleviate much of the stress of the compliance management process. This new release adds even more powerful capabilities to a manager’s SAM compliance tool box.” Since the introduction of EnterpriseEM in 2004, Eracent has been at the forefront of automating the software license reconciliation process, helping customers to achieve significant savings by optimizing their license portfolio, and to avoid potentially costly compliance breaches.
